Renovators and homebuilders operating on fixed price contracts have already had to deal with steep drywall price increases. Now, BC’s ongoing forest fires – which have shut down major lumber mills – are threatening to drive dimensional lumber prices higher, too.

How much higher? Commodity analysts have talked about immediate 7-8 per cent price increases in spruce-pine-fir lumber, with even higher increases likely.
