For this week’s column, I wanted to share part of an email that I got from a contractor in the Toronto area:
Good Morning Mike,
I’m the son in a father-and-son contracting firm located just east of Toronto. I have to say I truly enjoyed reading the article you wrote on how you helped Navid Tirmizi and his family make something more for their lives by streamlining their small business.
I have to be honest with you that I felt almost ashamed while reading towards the middle of your article when you were pointing out the common flaws of typical renovation companies like mine. I kept seeing neon letters flashing in my head – “Yes, that’s me. I’m guilty of these same traits and I know it and don’t do anything about it.” You literally made me feel like I was in a classroom again being scolded as the bad example. Very eye-opening.
As a result, I’m writing to first ask if you could spare a copy of the sales process you shared with Navid. Secondly, how do I go about hiring you or a local company like yourself to help shape our family business, which has been around (almost 3 decades) into a systematic and streamlined operation? My father is (in his 50s) and I’d like him to be able to finally relax and see that all his hard work finally paid off.

We’d like to hear your own stories. If you have a business challenge, or an insight, please get in touch with me and I’ll see what we can do to help.
