Homecare Renovations: Where are you?

A one day seminar being held today in Toronto is ground zero for a new, profitable industry.

I am attending a one-day seminar on homecare renovations. I am being told that in the fall, there will be made available upwards of $15,000 per renovation of federal public money to prepare homes for elder care. I can’t do the math but I have a feeling that $15,000 becomes a pretty big number when you multiply it by the numbers of homes in Canada where the elderly will be cared for.

The audience is a very diverse group of stakeholders. There are mostly pubic service folks, I think. I am sitting beside a guy who is responsible for all the renovations that take place to make homes for injured soldiers coming home from war livable. There are folks from the home monitoring systems industry. There are educators.

But no contractors. At the end of the day, this portion of the renovation industry will become the largest single kind of renovation done in any home across Canada. More even than the tradition kitchen and bath segment. Renovators will earn more money from this segment of the industry than any other.

Yet, at ground zero where this industry is being literally created, there are no renovators.
