In Quebec, the first offence fine for an unlicensed contractor is $10,000 – second offence is $30,000
Canadian Contractor Insurance Market risk"The cost to get a contractor's licence in Quebec is approx. $6K - and another $2K annually for renewal of licence, insurance, bond and association fees. And yet the underground market is alive and well all over Quebec."
Further to our posts on punishing cash operators, Brett Cavanagh updated us on the way Quebec is dealing with unlicensed contractors…
“In Quebec, the first offence fine for an unlicensed contractor is $10K – second offense is $30K. With the contractor clearly taking all the risks and the homeowner taking none of the risk, it’s a wonder why any contractor would cut their profits and jeopardise their livelihood.”
