Extreme home accessibility makeover

John McLellan, a very well respected contractor in the Durham, ON region, is donating the services of one of his crews to help provide a $30,000 home accessibility renovation for the loved ones of a family in need

Featured on the front cover of last August’s (2012) Canadian Contractor was renovator John McLellan. The story was called “Restoring Dignity” (through accessibility renovations) and it looked at how some contractors, like John, have become specialists in this type of retrofit as Canada’s population rapidly ages.

John has now taken the “Restoring Dignity” theme to a new level by becoming involved in a contest in which one lucky family in the Durham, ON area will receive a $30,000 home accessibility renovation. John, who I’m proud to say is one of our CARAHS members, has generously donated the services of one of his crews in order to help make sure this contest is a tremendous event!

The contest is open to all residents of the Durham Region who have a need for a home accessibility makeover. People are encouraged to apply online and say why they, or someone in their family, should receive this home renovation to meet their special needs. Applications will be accepted until August 1, 2013 through a random draw.

I encourage everyone who reads this, no matter in what province they are located, to think about taking up the challenge like this with a similar offer for their community. Its about restoring  someone else’s dignity in your neighborhood.
