The Grinch Who Stole From Tradespeople

Canadian Contractor

A poem based on Dr. Seuss's "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas," by Garfield Dunlop, Ontario MPP for Simcoe-North. Garfield is the PC party's Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Critic. Much better than that, however, he's a fully-licensed, working plumber.

THE GRINCH WHO STOLE FROM TRADESPEOPLE

Every Tradesperson
down in Trades-ville
liked Christmas a lot…
But the Grinch,
who worked at the College of Trades very far from Trades-ville,
did not!
The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!
Don’t ask why, though, no one quite knows the reason.
But, whatever the reason, he stood in his office
staring down from his Bay Street tower
with a sour, Grinchy glower.
For he knew every Tradesperson in Trades-ville was hard at work,
so they could buy Christmas presents from smiling store clerks.
“They’re shopping at the Eaton Centre!” he snarled with a sneer.
“Next week is Christmas! It’s practically here!”
Furiously he paced, his Grinchy fingers nervously drumming.
“I MUST find a way to keep Christmas from coming!”
And then he got an idea…
An awful, Grinchy idea!
“I know just what to do!” the Grinch said, smiling for the first time all day.
“I’ll make it so Tradespeople can’t afford presents, they’ll have a new tax to pay!”
So off he went to Trades-ville,
and knocked on the doors.
He began collecting $120 from each Tradesperson,
and soon the whole village was poor.
“Our parents can’t afford presents!” cried Little Tommy Trade.
And Little Tommy began pleading for anyone, even the Premier, to come to their aid.
But the Grinch was on a roll,
no one was willing to say stop.
Soon he started making up laws on a whim
and closing down barber shops.
So with one week ’till Christmas,
Tradespeople are pleading,
If the College keeps taxing and regulating us
it will keep our businesses from succeeding!
And unlike the residents of Who-ville,
who got a happy ending…
This Christmas only the Grinch is happy
and the unions he’s befriending!
The End
“This year the Ontario College of Trades was a grinch for hardworking tradespeople in the province of Ontario as it hit them with an unnecessary, costly trades tax. Unlike Dr. Seuss’ Grinch, the Liberal government and the College are not doing the right thing, which is to stand up for the tradespeople and stop the trades tax,” said Garfield Dunlop, PC critic for Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Reform, and MPP for Simcoe North. “In 2014, we will continue our fight for the Liberal government to abolish the College of Trades and its trades tax.”

This is very humorous but the trade tax isn’t as a small business as well as a plumber I’m finding. It increasingly difficult to keep my head above water with the added difficulty with starting a new business getting a client base started and dealing with red tape from all levels of government that the OCOT is lining it’s pockets with money that will allow me to make or break my businesse. This is not only my business but my life if I loose it I will also loose everything I have have worked for over Thirty years and I know I am not alone please stop this from happening. If we loose this where will we go we will no longer be able afford to live here or we will be a extra burden on our Province. I don’t know about you but but I don’t like that future.

College of Trade It is one of many pathologies created during the current ruling of the Liberal Party of Ontario. I hope more citizens of our Province should realize that there is no future with Liberals and sooner they go the less damage they do.
    Merry Christmas to all

I hate to say it but this fight is basically over till election time, but thank you Garfield for a good laugh. Now our Premier non elect Madame McWinnty is pressing hard for CPP reform. Is this because she cares for the seniors of Ontario? Absolutely not….her big union friends have an unfunded liability they would like to share with the taxpayers. Harper is on to her, but sadly the voter’s of Ontario are not. After every elect the liberal party will focus on how to create more government jobs which we don’t need and cannot afford for one simple reason. To buy more votes with our tax dollars. What a shame that the media avoids this topic. If they share the facts, then they are branded “Anti Union”. Shame!

I love madam McWinnty new commercial her running down the street, telling her store. I just wish she would just keep running and never stop. The OCOT is nothing more the a complaints department for the public. How can you believe anything they say after pissing away 1 billion on generators to buy votes. This women and her clowns should be jailed for fraud of tax payers money

  5. Oleber says:

The list of scandals of the liberal government so far out weights their competency.
Why was they never dismissed by incompetence, mismanage public founds and misleading the public. Did the NDP blessed some of these?

This only happen in third world countries, right?

The OCOT, the first of its kind on Canada and Ontario, really?

Apparently the Liberals are famous in selling lies to the public, maybe its what they know how to do best.

This shit was set here in Ontario, similar to the Saskatchewan Province, and is a store of selling certification tittles. Also right here on video for all to see.
