“Am I exempt, as a director of a corporation, from paying WSIB premiums on our corporation dividends?”

Wouldn't it be great if the WSIB could make a clear and unambiguous statement on the company dividends issue? Perhaps they will now. Read on...

Last year we reported that Ontario’s WSIB had backtracked on its original plan to go after company dividends. At least, we reported that in one particular case, a small family-owned renovation firm was assessed a premium on their dividends, fought it, and WSIB backed off.  The WSIB to our knowledge has not made a clear and unambiguous statement on dividends. Everyone who has experience with WSIB going after their dividends, please post below, even if you prefer to use an assumed name. This question below is from Benecia.  Hold onto your money, Benecia, until you get some guidance from this forum!

“I received a declaration of exemption from WSIB. As a director of the corporation that is exempt. My question is since I’m exempt from paying premiums on my salary I’m I exempt from paying premiums on the dividend I get? Thanks for the information.
