Edmonton firm recruiting for Fort McMurray clean-up not messing around, reader says

$15 an hour, 12-hour-days, and the threat of a taxi back to Edmonton "if you complain" with your wages cut to minimum wage, Christopher claims.

Post from Christopher, who is trying to find work on the rebuild of Fort McMurray, about an agency in Edmonton. We have not verified his claims about the firm in question.

“I applied to a posting by [a firm] out of Edmonton and was told that I have to be a resident of Edmonton. The pay is $15/hour. Four to five workers in a room and have to sleep on the floor after a 12+ hour day. If you complain you will be forced to leave Fort Mac in a taxi back to Edmonton at your cost and any monies owed in wages will be reduced to minimum wage…

Now most of these homes would have been insured – that would mean clean up and rebuild… Canadians donated $30-million + to the Red Cross. And government matched that. So $60+million. Where is this money actually going if most of the residential cleanup and rebuild is covered by insurance? Is this whole thing a sham? Is Fort Mac is getting shafted big time?”
