“Kathleen Wynne, the noted economist, knows how much your house should be worth”

The Ontario government is determined to cool off Toronto's white hot housing market. Here is a link to a scathing editorial on the policy-wonks' intervention from John Robson of The National Post.

For several years, renovators and custom homebuilders in the Greater Toronto Area have been experiencing a business boom like they have never seen.

Homeowners in this marketplace, confident of their greatly increased net worth as their home’s value soars, have kept the regional economy roaring with renovations and home decor – creating jobs, paying taxes and forging new opportunities in the trades for young people.

For Kathleen Wynne and the Ontario Liberals, this is all “unfair.” So they have announced a 15 per cent non-resident speculator tax on housing – and will have other “measures” to come.

Here is an interesting editorial on the matter from John Robson of the National Post.
