Union pulls back from Ontario College of Trades

Canadian Contractor canada

I don’t normally like to post links to articles to other publications, but it’s Saturday morning and we won’t get a chance to look deeper into this until the new year and I can’t wait to share the good news with readers in Ontario. The Toronto Star reported this morning that LIUNA is backing down from supporting the Ontario College of Trades. Here’s the story.

“Ultimately we believe it should be shut down all together.”

Yes, Yes, YES!!! Thanks for posting this link Rob, I hope you can speak to this more as time permits.
There is absolutely NO need for more bureaucracy then is already in place, regulating the skilled labour force. I have to admit to not fully understanding this “college” issue, only hearing and reading bits and pieces of it over the past year.
There is already the Ministry of Labour, doing a decent job, at least in our experiences and dealings with them.
I am no red neck, far from it, but even I have come to the end of my rope with Government interference in small, private companies!

First off Ministey of Labour doing a decent job? Truth is its mediocre at best, and Canadian workers “those that actually do the work” will tell you it is anything but decent. It is the workers that have come to the end of their rope a government who is bought out by private business and private business that disposes of workers as they please. So spare us the sympathy.
Truth is and fact. When unions were the strongest in Canada so was Canada. Look at Canada now, sold to private business nothing more. And it shows by our enlarging poverty rates.
Unions are a good thing for the workers and Canada when they win we all win.

    Jimmy Carter:

Every advance in this half-century: Social Security, civil rights, Medicare, aid to education… one after another- came with the support and leadership of American Labor.
