After busting contractors in undercover sting, Alberta might pass new law on renovation contracts

After charging 7 contractors under the province’s Fair Trading Act, Alberta says it is considering introducing “standardized contract” language that must be included in all renovation deals.
Two weeks ago, an undercover sting operation busted contractors in Edmonton and Calgary for, among other things, taking upfront money from clients without having required licences and contracts – in violation of existing Alberta law.
Now, the Calgary Herald reports that the government is pondering specific renovation contract legislation, over and above the Fair Trading Act.
“How do we equip Albertans with the right tools at the time they’re actually entering into these agreements?” said Calgary Greenaway MLA Manmeet Bhullar.
The government says it is likely not going to introduce a standard province-wide renovation contract. Rather, it is considering legislating specific clauses that must be put into every renovation contract.

I think the only thing that should be applied amongst homeowners, contractors and all people seeking, supplying, hiring, paying for any type of services all need to use common sense. Its like this… try to convince or persuade a 2 or 3 year old child to give you a bite of their chocolate bar or a lick of their ice cream cone! Good luck! Cmon people??? I was told and heard a saying growing up, ” you must not have worked hard enough for your money, to let go of it so easily!”. Which now days has been exchanged for , ” common sense isn’t so common anymore”. I find it so bizarre that its happened over and over and been in the media and still people are falling for it. Really it’s no brainer.
Be a little more careful with the details. Manmeet Bhullar was in opposition and is dead
