Framers, drywall tapers on strike in GTA
Canadian Contractor5,000 framers are already off the job
Strikes are now under way in several construction sectors in the Greater Toronto Area. And more unions appear ready to walk.
CityNews reported yesterday (May 3) that it had “received a tip that a number of GTA residential construction unions have voted in favour of a strike following failed bargaining with the Ministry of Labour.” These unions include drywallers, tile contractors and framers.
LiUNA Local 183 is already on strike, CityNews said, representing some 5,000 framers working from Burlington to Bowmanville. The report quoted Jason Ottey, a LiUNA Local 183 spokesperson, saying that the entire homebuilding process “does get jammed up by virtue of this one strike.”
Meanwhile, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Ontario Council, reports that, as of May 2, all residential drywall tapers are on strike. “This includes all hourly and piece workers in the residential sector,” their website says.
More to come.

Lanterra gave me an occupancy date of Aug 16/2016 for TREVISO 2. Now they tell me there may yet be another delay because of this strike action. So now I am in a jam with getting a real estate agent involved to dispose of the condo I now live in. At 70+ years age, this is stuff I do not need.
