Last time I checked there was NOT a hammer and sickle on our flag

Canadian Contractor Transportation

The last of our "bash the MTO" series. That wasn't our intent, but wow, are some of you seriously angry at the Ontario's vehicle safety cops.

The last word on the Ministry of Transportation (Ontario) safety cops being “Vultures.”  This is from John, who describes his “lovely experience with the MTO.”

“I too have unfortunately experienced these “vultures.” This was awhile ago when I found out, belatedly of course, that the MTO was given broader enforcement scope under the Highway Traffic Act. They were laying in wait, obviously not properly trained in pulling an individual over safely.

I had just pulled out of a (building) supply, reaching for my belt, an officer starts waving at me. I just assumed she was waving. Shortly there after THREE MTO vehicles pulled me over as if I had the biggest drug shipment going.

I had no idea why I was being pulled over.

I was told I had to put out my cigarette, laughable, and turn off my radio.

I repeatedly asked why I was being pulled over – to no avail.

Last time I checked there was NOT a hammer and sickle on our flag.

Suffice to say I lost my temper. My fault yes, and I walked to the site as they stripped me of plates, etc. and fined me profusely after their “safety check.”

This was just a pick-up, keep in mind. My cost to tow it home, and the tickets.

A lovely experience.”

It’s hard to keep a level head when you are being hammered from every possible direction. I’m no fan of the MTO either. We have had occasion when pulling off the 407 at. Jane being stopped and then 30 minutes later stopped agin getting on the 407 at Jane. An hour of lost time and not a solitary problem with our vehicle that just had it’s yearly safety done. Why not target vehicles that are obviously falling apart.
I’m just sick and tired of being harassed as an honest, tax paying, doing everything right contractor.
The MTO is just another broken government controlled agency.
I have to admit it has been hard not to be confrontational with these guys when they waste our valuable time. They definitely abuse their power.
    I feel your pain!
