  1. john dyck says:

As usual, Mike pats himself on the back (he must have 3 hands) He makes a short reply to the original question, then talks about himself more than necessarly required! He did not elaborate on the homeowners errors to any great length – right? He was talking more about how he would do thjngs and how good he really is!

  2. Dave Andresen says:

Good for you Bob for getting the interview. Good on Mike for sitting down with you.
Mike’s right, as much as he’s irritating. The trades should be more integrated. That’s why we hire architects and designers. But in my experience that doesn’t work either.
A good, (Mike’s 10%) general contractor has to be able to coordinate these aspects of the job.
    Keep up the good work!

  3. Mister Holmes is right! Completely!
The contractor is the person with the knowledge. He has to educate the customer and also make sure that this customer receives evething good the contractor has to offer. In doing so, the contractor will offer the different opportunities offered to the customer, and then, only then, the customer will have to accept
that his decision is taken with knowledge and He will accept to pay the real price for the job!

  4. Jeff Brown says:

On this topic, Mike is absolutely correct. While most contractors do not l;ike Mr. Holmes, it is not because of topics like this. The problem is that he endorses products for a substantial fee. Product placement is how they make a big part of thier income. I know because we brought a product to them and the wanted $35K for a few seconds of exposure. I am not saying this is wrong in itself but the public has no idea and take his word as gospel. SO if your methods and products do not conform to what Mike says or does, you must be wrong.

    • Robert Koci says:

Interesting comment. He does acknowledge that he gets money for using certain products and that’s one of the things contractors find objectionable. And there is no doubt he has a high opinion of his opinions.

  5. Mark Lawrence says:

I have seen shows where Mike has ripped out steel studs in the basement because they were “totaly wrong”. And a year later frame basements with steel because it was “totally right”. Mark Lawrence Smart Renovations Calgary

You can dress up Mike Holms all you want but the damage has already been done by our so called ambassador. He has been bashing contractors for a long time now, and sitting down with you to try and clear up any misconceptions won’t help, as I refuse to listen or even read your commentary. I will stand fast in my commitment to not purchase any product he has his name attached to, and to not read any monthly that has an interview with him. As a local contractor, it’s hard enough to get work without a mouthpiece like him slotting all of us good contractors into categories that we don’t fit into.

    • Robert Koci says:

Hey, you can do what you want, but I am really offended that you should consider us stooges for Mike Holmes. We gave him an opportunity to tell his side of the story. It’s the first time that I am aware that he has had the opportunity to answer his contractor critics directly. The corollary is you get to have your say, too. That fair and balanced, which is all we are trying to be. Don’t cut your nose off to spite your face.
