Douglas Cardinal’s new CLT system leads to “plastic bag buildings,” reader says
The solution to the problem is wood fiber board insulation, says
A few weeks ago, we wrote about a new type of Cross Laminated Timber system being promoted by world-famous Canadian architect Douglas Cardinal.
Here is a post from reader Andreas Herrmann about that.
The direction of Douglas Cardinal’s project/system is going definitely the right way! But I’m hesitating on his wall and roof insulation which is absolutely a system killer. It is, in my opinion, not much better than a plastic vapour control layer since this it is still a petroleum product.
The solution to such high-end future-oriented building systems is wood fiber board insulation which is in all aspects a few steps ahead. It not only provides sound and fire protection, it is even more efficient for energy savings, having a thermo-mass where the temperature transfer takes 3-4 times longer.
As toddlers, we were told never to put a plastic bag over our heads. Why then would we want to live in “plastic bag-building”?
