Driving in the big city: Confrontations with other drivers and road rage

Canadian Contractor Business Drivers risk Vehicle

Some people become demons when they climb behind the wheel. Taking their aggressive driving actions personally could cost you your life - or at the least a criminal record.

Who has not felt this while driving in big cities! Bad drivers cutting you off all the time, doing crazy things in front of your eyes every day.

Someone I know recently got into a road rage situation, because of another driver’s behavior. To make a long story short, he got a beating at the side of the road, after he was attacked by the other driver. He ended up in hospital.

One minute you are driving along minding your own business, taking care, then someone knocks you around, you take the bait and now both of you are involved with road rage. The consequences can range from losing your drivers license, to ending up in hospital, to earning yourself a criminal record… or worse.

Some people become demons when they climb behind the wheel.  Don’t take it personally.  When driving, especially in big cities, you have to maintain the right attitude and not get irritated, as it can change your decision making and increase you risk taking behavior, like my good friend.

We see drivers doing things they would never try if they were standing in line, waiting to buy something. They would never cut in front of you while you’re standing there (hopefully) or elbow you in the ribs or make reference to your parentage. Yet behind the wheel , people will do the worst things possible and they can very easily stir up our most dangerous and irrational state-of-mind: anger.

What if its not you, but someone you employ who is using your vehicle? Maybe its time to add a strict safe drive policy to your company’s policies and procedures. Due diligence is hard to prove after an event.

I drive all around the GTA and even outside of it, my biggest issues is the none stop construction, there is nothing more aggravating then that, one of my co-workers moved up north because he was just fed up to the point of no return, I’m close.

I’ve learned to deal with bad drivers, if something happens where it gets on my nerves I talk my self down and everything is cool a minute later.
