Canadian Contractor

Why do we have to PAY to access the National Building Code?

We have "paid for it countless times over" in taxes and fees, says this Certified Engineering Technologist

We recently asked why contractors (or any Canadians) should have to pay to access the various updates of the National Building Code – the model building code on which many local jurisdictions base their own codes, across Canada. See our article on this here.

Many contractors have posted their dismay at these fees for the NBC. Not that they are new. Here is a post this week from Ira Gould, who by their CET initials in the post appears to be Certified Engineering Technologist.

“These comments I have made for over 20 years.

As taxpayers, we pay for the research and maintenance of various boards and research facilities. We do not have (no charge) access to this information, having paid for it countless times over. When will this gouging of honest, hard working Canadians ever end?

Is this what we are reduced to?

A constant source of revenue from hundreds of various conduits, to maintain six figure salary of such indifferent bureaucrats. Some of which, could care less about this country and those who support the good for which it used to stand. This reckless abandonment of the Christian values we have held dear and treasured will certainly result in our ultimate demise.

This is shown to be evident in many recent and ongoing (events) within some corrupt elements of those in positions of authority. You only need to watch the evening news. When does this gouging ever end? God help us.”
