Seems McDonalds Restaurants makes it right in construction safety!
Canadian Contractor
Regardless if it’s a two-day shutdown and renovation of a McDonalds restaurant, it seems safety mostly trumps, as I found out walking passed their location on Saanich Rd Victoria BC (British Columbia)
Working from a platform installing siding were two workers, both harness in and tied off to anchorage points above them. I’m assuming McDonald’s contracts are hard to come by and contractors don’t want to loose them, especially due to a bad safety record.
Its also possible McDonald’s are being diligent hiring the right people, who take safety seriously into account when doing work for them. Whatever the reason, its positive and makes a change from me seeing workers not tied off and in danger of falling that changes lives.
We can always do better and this rings true at that McDonalds, both workers were not wearing hard hats, which like Ontario, this contravenes BC regulations. I think it’s up to all of us to do better!
