Magazine for professional home renovators.

Are you running your reno business, or is it running you?

Renovators everywhere say they are overworked, overwhelmed and, even worse, hampered by employees or subtrades who don’t take their business as seriously as they, the owners, do. They feel they have to do it all themselves. If they want to double the size of their business, they feel they will have to work twice as hard. This is probably not feasible. What’s the solution to the these often-heard complaints from professional renovators? Systems, says Mike Draper, a master coach with Renovantage (www.renovantage.com), and a frequent contributor to Canadian Contractor magazine. The implementation of clear and simple systems and procedures for tasks that come up again and again (such as quoting, billing, accounts receivable, payroll, etc.) will save time, allow the owner of the business to move away from “doing it all,” and provide safeguards and checks on errors, delays and inefficiencies.
