Where is consumer protection for Canadians?

Bryan bought bamboo flooring made in China, before Lumber Liquidators withdrew the product

Throughout 2016, Canadian Contractor followed the saga of Chinese laminate flooring sold by Lumber Liquidators  in Canada and the U.S. that was deemed to violate safe levels of urea formaldehyde levels. The company settled in the U.S., although nothing has been heard about attempts to launch a class action in this country. Bryan wonders where Canadians can turn for consumer protection.

I recently purchased a home which had 9/16″ Bamboo Strand flooring, manufactured in China installed on the main floor. Lumber Liquidator$ has since removed the product from their inventories. This is the first truly useful source of information I have found on the subject clearly informing the consumer regarding a path forward to deal with the problem and any recourse available for recouping expenses incurred. Pending air quality testing in the home, I now plan to match the existing flooring, as closely as possible, with a good quality Canadian hardwood product on the upper floors. I can’t believe that the Canadian Government does not take more responsibility for protecting consumers from shoddy Chinese manufactured products. I guess it’s buyer beware.
