This plumber I once worked with used to brag that he was arrested for drinking and driving and as a result required a chaperone to drive him to calls for a year or so.

Last week we ran a story about alcohol and drug abuse on the jobsite. Here is a post from Edward about a substance-abusing plumber.

“I will tell you guys a story. In my career as a plumber and working for various plumbing service companies, I had the pleasure (sarcasm) of working with one other plumber who would rinse and drink a shot of mouthwash before knocking on a customer’s door. Multiply that by 4 or 5 times a day. This individual also used to brag he was arrested for drinking and driving (personal vehicle) and as a result required a chaperone to drive him to calls for a year or so. It amazed me that this company allowed this individual to continue working there, who I assume still does.

“Alcoholics and drug abusers are abundant out there. (And not even a trip to the Liquor Control Board of Ontario) is required to get drunk and work in the services industry, where appearance is key. You will be amazed how many service reps drive around with mouthwash in their vehicles! it is a big problem.”
