Volunteer to fight back against human trafficking gang leaders like Ferenc Domotor
Canadian ContractorThankfully, there is an organization to help the victims of such modern day slavery. It's called Aurora House, it's in Toronto, and they need some help.
Human trafficking makes the headlines, usually, with regards to prostitution.
But not many people are aware that construction workers are human trafficked in Canada, as well.
In 2012, Canadian Contractor followed one such story of forced labour in our industry. That year, then-49-year-old gang leader Ferenc Domotor was sent to jail for 9 years for heading up a modern-day slavery ring in the Hamilton, Ont. and Toronto areas. Among its criminal activities, the gang brought Hungarians to Canada and forced them to work on residential construction sites.
Now, there’s a Toronto charity called Aurora House, which is trying to help victims and survivors of human trafficking, just like the atrocious story of Domotor and his cronies.
Aurora House was begun in 2014. The organization is now in the process of doing renovations to their halfway house/shelter. (The house is in an unidentified location, to protect the people who will stay there from any other unwelcome approaches.)
Renovations to the detached home are almost complete but the fine folks at Aurora House (Canadian Contractor has met them and we can vouch for their integrity and compassion) still need to get tiling and painting done in one bathroom, and some plastering, touch-ups and painting in one bedroom.
If you can help, please email publisher Rob Koci, rkoci@canadiancontractor.ca, and we will put you in touch with Aurora House.

Can we donate monies to the cause and if so how?
For sure, donations to this worthy cause are most welcome. Is it OK if we give your email address, which we have (not published) to Aurora House, D. Brian? They will be in touch. Thank you so much.
Sorry for lateness of my reply, D. Brian. If you go to Aurora House, online, you will see all the contact information there. Thanks for joining the cause.
