In this month’s unscripted ramble, Rob asks me about how things are different now than when we first published Canadian Contractor 15 years ago.

Well, we’ve never seen a year with so many government pickpockets hitting up the beleaguered independent contractor, especially in Ontario. The WSIB’s big cash grab, the Ontario College of Trades are both big stories for our readers in this area of the country.

We also talk about the young, aggressive new generation of contractors that are coming into our business. They are educated, they are wired, they are interested in renovating as a business, pure and simple – not just because they like to build stuff (though many of them are superb builders already).
